Secretary Salazar had established an American Latino Heritage Initiative which is focused on identification of important Latino stories, events and people that are currently missing from our Hisotrical Landmarks, Districts, National and Local Hisotric Registers. We have a remarkable opportunity to make these stories a part of our shared American history that will serve to keep our culture alive and our children proud of their heritage. However, we need to build on the framework that Secretary Salazar has initiated by taking ownership of this issue and promoting outcomes that will result in more sites being desigated as Historical Landmarks, Historic Districts and preservation of our hisotry.
